Little Compton Historical Society’s
Annual Cider Day – Monday, October 8th
The Little Compton Historical
Society at 548 West Main Road hosted its annual Cider Social on Columbus Day at
the Wilbur House Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. It was free and open
to the public. Tours, historic games and activities, scarecrow making, and
complimentary refreshments were the order of the day. The society also held its
first antique sale during the social. Columbus Day weekend was the last chance
for visitors to enjoy the “Terra Nova, Vida Nova: The Portuguese in Little Compton” summer exhibition. Period-dressed docents also offered
guided tours of the 300-year–old historic Wilbur House. The cider social is the
last day the museum is open to the public for the 2007 season. Educational
programs for organized groups may still be scheduled throughout the year. For
more information call (401) 635-4035. Visit the Little Compton Historical

Carving pumpkins is a great joy! - October 7th There’s always something happening
at the Westport Grange these days, and last Sunday was no exception. “The Farmer’s
Market was really good for us,” Duke Julian of Hidden Gardens said. “We were
asked by many to extend the availability of our floral bouquets as they were
such a big hit during the regular season. This Farmer’s Market closed a little
earlier than some, so we were happy to oblige.” The family-friendly Everything Pumpkins event also offers
pumpkin carving and pumpkin painting. “We’re pumpkin farmers,” Duke said,
“and the Grange is a great venue to sell pumpkins. This event all sort of fell
together,” he added. Everything Pumpkins is at the Westport
Grange on 931 Main Road, Central Village every Sunday in October from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m.

Harvest breakfast – Sunday, September 30, 2007
Vietnam Veterans of
America, Bristol
County Chapter 207 hosted their Harvest Breakfast today from 7 - 11 a.m. at the
American Legion Hall, Sanford Road, Westport. A beautiful fall day prompted
many to take advantage of the low-cost high-quality breakfast of bacon,
sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, home fries, beans, toast, coffee and juice;
all for just 6$ per adults and $3 for children under 12. And of course, it was
all you care to eat. It’s no wonder the counter was hopping (photo on left).
All proceeds benefited the Veterans and Community High School Scholarship
programs. Arthur
Dubiel (above, second photo from right), a
4-year Vietnam Army veteran was all smiles over his hearty breakfast. Selectmen Veronica F. Beaulieu (right) with Pauline Baraby (above
second photo from left) are happy that someone else is cooking breakfast! To learn more about this event and its
contribution to the community, call Harry Tripp at (508) 636-3026.

Westport’s “Head” gets a
hair cut!
– Friday, September 21, 2007
You may have noticed how neat and
trimmed the Head of Westport’s town landing is looking this past week. You can
thank Jack Sisson, Highway Surveyor, for initiating the cleanup, and Randy Raposa of the Highway Department for seeing the work
through to completion.
“We did the cleanup
because we had problems mowing the landing, and we just wanted to make the area
look nicer,” Jack said. “Sometimes we just don’t appreciate what we have.” We
couldn’t agree more, Jack. Great job and much deserved thanks to the highway
department.

“The Gathering!”
There was a beehive of activity on the athletic
fielding in Adamsville on Sunday, September 9 as bike riders used it as a
rendezvous point in their 100 mile ride around Dartmouth, Westport, Tiverton, Little Compton and
Adamsville. Approximately 1800 riders attended and paid to do the trip.
Everyone got a tee shirt, yet the real reward was the accomplishment of
finishing the circuit. Thanks to James Lebelle of
Westport Bicycle for their sponsorship (also see below) and the event
statistics. www.villagebicycle.com Thanks James.
