Westport
Music Festival Raises Record
$36,084 for
‘A Wish Come True’ Kids
Westport,
MA, 29 October 2007 – Over 1,500 music lovers headed to the coastal community
of Westport, Massachusetts this past September in support of the 14th annual
Westport Rock Rhythm & Blues Festival that raised in excess of $36,000 to
benefit its favorite charity, A Wish Come True, Inc., Rhode Island’s oldest
wish-granting nonprofit.
Established
in 1982, A Wish Come True, Inc. (AWCT) services families in Rhode Island and
the nearby Southeastern, Massachusetts area by granting the wishes of children
ages three to 18 who are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions.
The non-profit celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, granting an average
of 70-80 wishes annually.
“The
Motorcycle Fun Run drew a record number of participants, too,” reports festival
chairman Frank ‘Frankie’ Ray, who orchestrated the noontime arrival of some 189
bikers and riders in the fourth annual rally, from Dave’s Beach in Fall River
to the Holy Ghost Club fairgrounds in Westport, that kick-starts the concert.
According to Ray, more than 200 persons also attended the Friday night Chicken
BBQ, featuring the bluegrass band Bud Smith & Friends.
“We topped
last year’s fundraising total by more than $3,000.00,” says Ray, who attributes
the festival’s continuing success to its core of dedicated volunteers,
big-hearted bikers, and talented musicians. The 2007 festival boosted the
event’s fundraising total since its inception, to well over $238,000. A photo
album of this popular community event can be viewed at www.aldenhill.com.
Musicians
and performers appearing during the two-day open-air concert include members of
Louis Leeman and Cheap Sneakers, Shot in the Dark,
Bob Demers Group featuring vocals by Monica Ambroziac,
Mr. Chubb featuring Ronnie Machado, Blues Train, Soul Power with David Cherry,
Wild Nites with C & B Horns, and Hawg Wild.
Ray is also
grateful for the generosity of sponsors, including Colonial Beverage, Holiday
Travel, R.E.S. Transport/Bob Sieminski, Chuck
Gregory/Southcoast Tribune, and the Holy Ghost Club, as well as the
contributions of Jacques Lonchay of New England Live
Audio, Pat & Mike’s Ice Cream, R & S Rental, Lil’
Audrey’s Markets, Dave Lechan’s Lil’
Critters, and the Rutowski family of Fall River.
