Westport Farmers Market & Craft Fair is celebrating Massachusetts Farmers Market Week, August 17 through 23, with a fabulous raffle. Left: Cindy Zembo manned the Raffle Table at last Week’s Farmers’ Market.

 

Governor Deval Patrick has proclaimed Aug. 17-23 Massachusetts Farmers' Market Week, calling the markets "essential to the vitality of Massachusetts farms."

 

All items are donated by market vendors and include produce, plants and a large variety of crafts. Tickets are $2.50 each or three for $5 and will be available during market hours 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 and August 23 inside at the Grange Cafe or outside at a booth displaying some of the items.

 

The Westport Farmers Market is located at 931 Main Rd. in Central Village and is open every Saturday through October 11.

The drawing will be held inside at the Grange Cafe at 1 p.m. on August 23. State Representative Mike Rodrigues will be drawing the three tickets

for our lucky winners Winners can make arrangements to pick up their loot by calling (508) 636-4427. “You don't have to be present to win, just remember to write in your phone number,” said Beth Easterly, event organizer.

“The craft items will provide a head start on holiday shopping if you can bear to part with anything,” Beth said. Items range from the whimsical painted mail boxes of Gail Denardo, to a practical one hour massage from Karen Burns at The Comfort of Touch, to the striking landscape art work of Debra Valeri of Meadowbrook Studios. Come visit the market and try your luck.

 

Donations to date include: produce from the Canuel Farm, Quansett Gardens, Paradise Hill Farm and the Crows Nest Farm; plants from Dartmouth Green Engineering, Inc., The Hidden Garden and The Plant Pagoda.; cheeses from Shy Brothers Farm, Golden Touch Farm alpaca items, Grange Cafe baked goods, and a cookbook of Family Recipes by Grange member Elinor Gay.

 

Crafters and artists include Sharon Owens, basket maker, jewelry from Creative Gems, One Love Body Care products, goods from Woods Gourd Bird House, Chili Pepper Earrings from Cirius Designs, Quilting by Dottie, Taggie for Baby, Gail Derange, a hand-painted mailbox, Help You Live's Therapeutic Rice Bags, an art print from Meadowbrook Studio, Doves Foot Pottery, Dragonfly Handmade Soaps from Wind Drift Studio, a hand-painted Frog Rock, earrings by Elsie Bettencourt, a handmade blank book by Kelly Arruda, massages by Karen Burns, and Falcon handcrafted jewelry.

 

The acoustic blues and rock duo The Big Double Standard will also be performing three sets starting at 9:00 a.m. The duo features J. Ouellette on vocals and guitar and Andy Pacheco on guitar. They play a mix of traditional blues and rock covers as well as their own original material. Check them out on the web at:
