Supported
by artists for artists, the South Coast Open Studio Tour provides the general
public an unusual opportunity to have a first-hand look at local art and
craftsmanship flourishing on the Coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
This event brought together small independent studio artists who produce their
own work and are eager to demonstrate their creative skills and crafts to
the public. Most of these artists and craftspeople work out of their home
studios and sell primarily through galleries and craft shows. Travel off the
beaten path to find these studios on the back roads, down narrow lanes, and in
local villages, far away from the malls and shopping centers. Get acquainted
with the artists and their work on a personal level.
Ask them why they make their art. Every piece has a story behind it. Visit the
artists in their own creative environments and connect the product to the
personality and place and how it was created. You will see pieces in many
stages of design and a variety of materials and machinery which the artists can
tell you about.
