Partners Village Store hosted a reading on Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at its
new location at 865 Main Road, continuing a series of readings that began in
August at the Macomber Community Center. Left:
Bob Barboza, event leader, signed a copy of “Visions
in Verse” for John Landry, Poet Laureate, who appeared as a guest
reader.
This past
April, New Bedford Mayor Scott W. Lang named John P. Landry as the city’s
official Poet Laureate. New Bedford-born Landry, who is well known in the
region as a poet and teacher at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth
and Bristol Community College, has many years of writing experience and
enthusiasm for poetry. The Poet Laureate’s official duties for the city are to
compose and read poetry at various venues and special events within New
Bedford.
The book
features original works by the 13 regular members of the poetry workshop, and is
available for sale at local stores including Lees Market and Partners' Village
Store. Partners Village Store continues to take a leadership role in promoting
and supporting Westport’s large artisan community through imaginative public
events.
The 76-page
book's publication was made possible through a grant from the Westport Cultural
Council, which covered the costs of the anthology with funds from the Helen E.
Ellis Charitable Trust.
