and duos along with the trio of Brahms’ Trio in E-flat Major for Violin, Horn
and Piano, Op 40. Violinist

venerable Westport Point United Methodist Church in a pre-concert performance
of Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47 by Sibelius. Travis Rapoza, 17 years old, is an accomplished violinist who
currently studies with Mr. Brink, a former professor at the New England
Conservatory of Music for thirty-five years. Mr.
Travis was accompanied by pianist One could
easily see the improved level of maturity and confidence since his last appearance
for CAP. Mr. Travis is the concertmaster of the New Bedford Youth Symphony
Hall. He plans to pursue music and dreams of a career as a concert violinist. The Triton
Horn Trio During
the past season, violinist Ani Kavafian (lower right in photo below) visited over 30
cities in performances with the Chamber Music Society, in recitals with her
sister, Ida, and with the Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin
Trio. For more
than two decades pianist Mihae Lee (lower

such venues as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Jordan Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Academia Nationale
de Santa Cecilia in Rome, Warsaw National Philharmonic Hall, and Taipei National
Hall. A native
of Western Pennsylvania, William Purvis pursues a multifaceted career
both in the U.S. and abroad as horn soloist, chamber musician, conductor and
educator. A passionate advocate of new music, Mr. Purvis has participated in
numerous premieres as hornist and conductor,
including horn concerti by Peter Lieberson and Bayan Northcott, trios for
violin, horn and piano by Poul Ruders
and Paul Lansky, and Steven Stuckey's Sonate en Forme des Préludes with
Emanuel Ax as part of his Perspectives Series at Carnegie Hall.
“We were
concerned about attendance due to the weather,” said Executive Board member
Barbara Faria of Westport. But, as usual, the
concert performed to a full house. These three
esteemed soloists joined forces to present masterpieces from the horn
repertoire. Prize-winners since their teen-age days, these three kindred
spirits have united their distinguished and seasoned performing careers in
this ensemble which grew out of a performance of the Brahms Horn Trio. Formed
in 2004, the Triton Trio performs innovative programs of various combinations
of solos and duos along with the trios of Brahms, Harbison,
Lansky, Ligeti and others. Ms. Kavafian
is an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; Mr.
Purvis is a frequent guest of that ensemble and a member of the New York
Woodwind Quintet; and Ms. Lee is an artist member of the Boston Chamber Music
Society. Program
for January 4: All-Brahms, concluding with the incomparable Horn Trio Op. 40.
