Pastor Patrick Crough grilled up the home fries as the Old
Stone Church prepared for its first May breakfast of the season. If you’re
like most, you can hardly wait until the local May Breakfast Season begins, and hopefully you didn’t miss one of the
first and best breakfasts in the area. On Saturday, April 26 from 7 to 10 a.m.
the First
Baptist Old Stone Church in Tiverton once again featured a five-star menu including:
Johnny cakes, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, muffins, home fries,
juice and coffee. Free will donations were accepted to support the church and
its ministries. This May Breakfast was held in the church’s Fellowship Hall
located at 7 Old Stone Church Road in Tiverton. For more information on future
events please call the church office at (401) 624-4155 or Marion Warren at (401)
624-4615.
Breakfast
proceeds benefited the South Providence Children’s Ministry, Foster Children’s
School Pack’s And Supplies, Military Care Package Outreach Ministry, Old Stone
Emergency Food Closet and Outreach, and Forever Paws Animal Shelter; all worthy
causes each and every one of them.
The church’s
youth group volunteered for kitchen and serving duties, and their efficient
efforts and cheery attitude warmed many spirits.
Above left: The Old Stone Church’s kitchen was
working overtime to keep up with a terrific turn-out. Center: The church’s youth group helped keep the event running
smoothly. Right: Marie Hadfield (left) and Janice Wood of Westport enjoying the
breakfast and the company!
Far left: Meanwhile, at the same time but across
town in Little Compton, American Legion Post 37 sponsored a breakfast at the Community Center at the Commons from 8 to 11 a.m. Veterans Bob ?,
Roland Chretien, Bob Harris, Al Leis and Bert Chretien took on the cooking and maitre d’ chores. I wonder
who peeled the potatoes! The price was right for this breakfast at $6 for adults
and $3 for children 6 to 12.
The very
pretty duo of Lillian Quinn and Inger Ormston of Little Compton happily enjoyed the fruits of the
veterans’ labors.
On May 3rd
there was a Community Pancake Breakfast
at the Friends Meeting House on Main
Road, across from the Westport Grange. This event benefited AFSC/SENE
(American Friends Service Committee of Southeastern New England). Held from 8:30
to 10 a.m., they drew a good crowd.
At the same
time, the Westport United Congregational
Church, 500 American Legion Highway in Westport served their May Breakfast
on Saturday morning. It was served from 7 to 10 a.m. The menu included eggs, bacon, sausage,
pancakes, home fries and baked beans.
They also had homemade breads and beverages. The price was $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for
children. For future tickets and
reservations, call Marge (508) 673-6641. What a great way to start Saturday
errands. For more information on this or other events call Mary McCarthy at
(508) 636-4282, or email her at: mccarthym@myatt.net
If you’re
cooking your own weekend breakfasts, you may wish to rethink that exercise and
visit one of the area’s local churches instead!
