And their creations
didn’t require interpretation. The Shattuck
hosted a budding springtime picnic with food, fun and a guitar-pickin’ gala replete with vegetation headwear reminiscent
of the 60’s. Ah, Westport, you
never know what to expect. BBQ was offered
by Smoke & Pickles, a Westport catering company that provides fresh
locally sourced cuisine. Spring meals included wood smoked chicken and pulled
pork, a killer grilled cheese, or a beautiful local spring salad, accompanied
by tangy pickles and savory sides. The Flour Girls
Baking Co. welcomed your sweet tooth with a variety of baked confections from
their mobile dessert truck. All natural ingredients and homemade family
recipes grant these indulgences a positive, ‘yes!’ Bart’s Homemade
Ice Cream served icy scoops at $3 a cone. This ‘super-premium’ ice cream
company originating from Western, MA is committed to eliminating
environmental and social problems by donating a percentage of profits to
charity. As for spring
tunes, a fusion of folk, country, and bluegrass music came from one of The
Shattuck’s favorite singer/songwriters, Putnam Murdock. Many enjoyed the
feast and danced barefoot as Putnam serenaded their inner musical muse. The Shattuck also
hosted a natural materials hat contest where guests were encouraged to
construct and bring their own hat, made from naturally found earth material,
for example straw, wood, vegetation, and stone. For more

Mr. Moniz was
born in 1945 in New Bedford. He attended school in New Bedford and then went
on to Massachusetts College of Art and the Museum School of the Museum of
Fine Arts in Boston. His style of painting is a combination of graphite
drawing with transparent watercolor washes over the highly detailed
renderings. This style of
“graphite and watercolor” has evolved over the years and creates images which
are soft and subtle yet show remarkable details and textures. He also works
in oils and pen and ink to create works of art with the same attention to the
fine details and textures of the subjects. He’s an exceptional artist and
everyone here at Westport Rivers is ecstatic to have his wonderful work here
in our gallery. “I think we live in one of
the most interesting and beautiful areas in the country. And I have always
tried my best to show that beauty in my work.” – Arthur Moniz The prolific
artist has included many watercolors of Westport landscapes in his
exhibition.

and Potter get citations for untiring and unselfish service to Westport youth
athletics. EverythingWestport.com Wednesday, May
22, 2013 At their last
meeting, Westport Selectmen cited residents Ray Elias and Lenny Potter for
their many years of volunteer work with the town’s youth athletics. Chairman Vieira
called Elias “an “unsung hero,” and Selectman Steve Ouellette said Potter had
given 20 years of “untiring and unselfish service in all aspects of Babe Ruth
baseball in Westport. Elias recently
retired from his many years of coaching and refereeing Westport youth
basketball. Westport
Elementary School gym to be named for Raymond Elias. A few well-chosen
words on a piece of paper can’t fully express the admiration and appreciation
for men who have volunteered a lifetime of community service to several
generations of Westport schoolboys. But it’s a good
place to start. Above: Lenny Potter (center) accompanied by his wife, receives a citation from selectmen Steven Ouellette (far left), selectmen board chairman Antone Vieira, and selectmen board Vice Chairman Richard Spirlet (far right.) Above: Ray Elias (second from right)
