It's a three-peat! Elgar wins Laubi 5K. New Bedford's Jo Ann Mathews again

The multi-event winner
has dominated this race, winning three of the last four Laubi 5Ks. 2010 winner, Eric Worsley of Fall River, was noticeable absent. In 2011, Christopher Elgar of Attleboro
(17:28) edged out Eric Worsley of Fall River (17:31)
in a near photo finish to win 7th Annual Devin Laubi 5K Walk/Run. Matthew Corr took third at 17:41. The Westport charity
sponsors this and other yearly fundraisers to assist those families with
children who have cancer. Mathew Corr of Dartmouth, this race's bridesmaid but never a
bride, took second at 17.22. East Taunton's Peter Danzel
finished third at 18.42. Top New Bedford
competitor Jo Ann Mathews, 2010's female winner, came in at 19.45, despite
recovering from multiple injuries that "have me still recovering, so I'm
a little out of shape."
Fall River's Madalena Boudreau, running with chronic injuries she has
endured over the last 6 months, was 2nd female at 23:14. "I just work
through the tightness and occasional pain," Boudreau. "I manage a
slightly slower pace and try to keep my competitive nature in check to keep
from going all out to try to win." Rounding out the
top three women was Annette Ainsworth of Westport with a time of 24:14. The weather broke
and produced sparkling sunshine with a few clouds, and although the cool,
crisp air on race day saw fewer runners than last year's record setting 5K
participation, several top runners had their best times in this annual
fundraiser. "One of our
participants was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now entering her own
battle'" event organizer Robin Burns-Laubi said. "She did
stop by so she could wear her shirt while she deals with this, and we hope
Devin will give her strength. I ask you to please pray for Beth for strength
to recover and her returned health," Burns-Laubi said. "Thank you
to everyone that came out for a nice day supporting our work for those in
need. Thank you also to Domino's Pizza and Friendly's for their donations of
refreshments. We could never accomplish all we do without our many wonderful
volunteers (unsung heroes) you help me breathe," Burns-Laubi said.

sponsorship. They have been wonderful supporters over the years. Our
fantastic "chocolatier", Donna White was
able to exceed her goals selling Easter loli-pops
for us and raised over $3,000 for us (the foundation). She's an amazing
woman!" "I do
believe we raised just under $2,000 after expenses for this event. We hope
