Ms.
Shattuck's idea for the structure was inspired by historic Quaker Meeting
House architecture and other local historic structures. The gallery sits
quietly in a meadow and visually fits with the historic New England village
that surrounds it. Although
referencing historic architecture, it features modern sustainable ideas and
function. The gallery and its surroundings will provide a place to explore a
wide variety of vital art ideas created by noted national, regional and
international artists. Ms.
Shattuck has realized a long held dream of creating a beautiful environment
where art works can be shown to their best advantage. The gallery will be an
active part of the area's creative community with regular exhibitions and
programs that are open to the public. It hopes to be an attraction and place
of discovery for art lovers and collectors from the region and beyond. The
Inaugural Exhibition will feature 36 area artists, offering a variety of
media including painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, glass,
and textiles. The
artists exhibiting in the Inaugural Exhibition are: Lasse
Antonsen, Sarah Benham, Meris Barreto, John Borowicz, Beverly Carter, Deborah Coolidge, Eck Follen, Harvey Goldman, Chris Gustin,
Severin Haines, Charlotte Hamlin, Walter Horak, Roger Kizik, Jim Lawton,
Anne Leone, Daniel Ludwig, Gayle Wells Mandle,
Johanna McKenzie, Anthony Miraglia, Elin Noble, John Powel, Samina Quraeshi, Marc St. Pierre, Nicole St. Pierre, Joyce Utting Schutter, Benjamin

June 3rd. EverythingWestport.com Friday, May 27, 2011 Friday, June 3 - Opening day of the Dartmouth Farmers
Market held at St. Peter's Church,
located at 351 Elm Street in Padanaram Village.
Market hours will be between 1 and 6 p.m. Local
farmers from Dartmouth and Westport have been bringing their fresh produce to
the Dartmouth Farmer's Market for six years. Regular vendors include
Dartmouth farmers Andy Pollock of Silver Brook Farm on Chase Road, and
William and Laurel Owen of Merry Legs Farm right up the road on Elm Street. They
will be joined once again by Westport farmers Monique and Jerome Sampson of
Sampson's Farm on Old Bedford Road, and Mary Merhi
of Quansett Gardens on Horseneck Road. Shy Brothers
Cheese Company of Dartmouth and Westport will again be providing those tasty
"Hannah Bells" which will be available in Classic French, lavender,
rosemary, shallot, and (new this year) chipotle. The Martins Cheese Company
located on Sodom Road in Westport will also be supplying our market each week
with fresh goat cheese, and Tim Stone of the Great Hill Dairy in Marion will
be providing his award-winning blue cheese again this year. Crafts
will also be available at each week's market. Welcome back kudos go to
Rebecca J. Bailie of Nature Designs and Jean Racine
of Dream Weaver's Leather Crafts. Joining Rebecca and Jean are returning
crafters Peter Sisson and Erika Hamer of Knot Crazy
and Busy Bee. Also
returning to the crafts tents is Brenda Levasseur,
who will be providing the market with hand-made soaps and a variety of
healthy herbal products. The
Artisan Kitchen from Rochester and the Main Street Café of Fall River will
also be returning to the Dartmouth Farmer's Market, providing freshly-baked breads
and a large variety of baked goods. New
to this year's Farmers Market are Myrna Caballero, who tested the waters
briefly last year here in Dartmouth, and will be providing a variety of
"Myrna Wear" to local shoppers. Sally Goodman of Fun and Fancy will
be offering chocolate caramel apples, chocolate caramel pretzel sticks, and a
variety of chocolate delights. Beachcomber
by Elizabeth A. Joseph will provide "gifts for souls that are drawn to
the ocean" and "Go Fetch," by Michelle Conlan,
will feature all natural dog treats and dog beds. Other
local vendors interested in participating in the weekly farmer's market
should contact market manager Tony Melli by
emailing him at oliodimelli@comcast.net, or calling (508)
636-8047. During
the market season, patrons will enjoy a variety of music and art provided by
local talent. Organizers are also looking to the return of a weekly reading
hour provided by the Dartmouth Public Library. Come
join them on the first Friday of June between 1 and 6 p.m., and make scenic Padanaram a shopping destination every Friday throughout
the summer. Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex is
planning to kickoff the 2011 summer season. EverythingWestport.com Friday, May 27, 2011 The Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex is
planning to kickoff the 2011 summer season with adult league play to begin in
mid-June. The 14 and over tennis league provides singles and doubles players
a competitive outlet to play tennis on a weekly basis. The DBSTC will
organize matches based on your level rating of play and your opponent's play,
and provide weekly reporting of scores.
Registration
for the league is $15 per person, whether playing singles, doubles or both.
Players will be asked to rank themselves as to their assessed playing level
so that the DBSTC League Coordinator can best align matches. Doubles players
sign up with a partner (for men's, women's or mixed teams). Opponents are
matched according to level rating, not gender. Further
details on summer leagues will be provided to registered participants. To
register, or for questions, call or click Vicki (League Coordinator) at (508)

Raus likes to look at things a little differently
than most folks. "I have always enjoyed taking photographs on vacation,
like most people," said the outgoing Westport artisan and Certified
Public Accountant. "I got better at it over time and starting taking
abstracts. People
found them very appealing and suggested I do it professionally." Raus said she leans
more to high contrast photos of smaller objects, simple kinds of images and
shapes and colors, not too much detail, just the opposite of her profession.
'Snow Fence at Horseneck Beach' is emblematic of her artistic sensibilities. To

"I fell in love with
the art of photography when I was just 9 years old. The rich memories
captured and claimed forever on paper fascinated me," Charlebois said. Serena's
niece, Zoe Parente, was awarded the Best Portrait award
in the Student Category for her image entitled 'Audrey'. Could it be that Zoe
is the next up and coming portrait photographer? To
