Great
food and great fun! Click
here to read article and view photos from last year’s
event. This
longtime annual Westport event draws hundreds of local area residents who
come back every year. St.
John the Baptist Church always seems to pull everything together, and then
some, to put on a really good show under their big tent. This year it’s no
different. Some of the events are a Grandma's
Attic, a Silent Auction, ethnic food, a Chicken Barbecue, Pancake Breakfast, and crafts, crafts, crafts. There will
be a Children's Section which
will feature Pony Rides on
Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a Magic Show at 3 p.m. But
each year also brings together a bunch of women parishioners who spend countless
hours cutting, piecing, appliquéing, basting, and hand-quilting a real labor
of love that has become the centerpiece of this Parish Fair - the raffle
quilt. Each year will be their last quilt; but each year they start a new
one. The group has already started the 2010 quilt.
These
heirloom-quality raffle quilts decorate the homes of many southcoast residents.
Your home could be next, but only if you buy a chance! Tickets are available at the fair or by calling
636-2251. This year’s quilt is called “Garden
Maze” (pictured above). The
Fair is held on the church grounds at 945 Main Rd. Westport, MA. Saturday,
August 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday,
August 9 from 8:00 to 12 noon.
